While driving down the road one day, I passed a building with a sign out front that said, "lose 10 lbs fast".
This sign pissed me off for a couple reasons. First, because I know this "promise" is complete crap. Also, because I know people will fall for it as I once did. They’ll continue to waste a lot of time, and a ton of money on solutions that don’t address why they’re struggling with their weight in the first place.
I have tried every weight loss product out there. You name it, I did it. I spent a ton of money along the way. I've tried counting points, drinking shakes, super strict meal plans, and damaging workouts. I spent one full week at a ranch where the main goal was weight loss. I even tried a magical plan designed to lose 20 lbs in 6 weeks. All were different, yet all were the same. The idea was to lose weight by eating less and moving more. There was one common thread shared by all of them - I always gained the weight back. Every single time.
That’s because I wasn’t in the driver’s seat. I didn’t realize my own power. Many of these weight loss plans prey on our insecurity, and the imaginary belief that life will be better once we drop the weight. There’s an underlying assumption that we are not okay now. That we are not good enough in the skin we're in. We're not living our best life, because of our weight. This is all bullshit.
So, why does the weight always come back?
These products treat the symptom. None of them address the underlying issue. They are temporary band-aid solutions that are meant to come off. Nothing I tried helped me address the reason why I was overweight in the first place. I didn't understand why I ate more than I should. I didn't know why I desired food, or had cravings. I wasn’t able to figure out how to stop stress eating. I assumed there was something wrong with me. I was weak. I had no self-control, and no will power.
Through all of my tears and frustration there is a hard truth I've come to realize. All the weight loss products and plans out there aren't designed for permanent weight loss. Imagine for just one second if people succeeded, and didn't gain the weight back. What would happen? There would be no need for the empty promises. A billion-dollar industry would literally crumble. They bank on failure. Obesity is an epidemic that companies have cashed in on. They don’t solve the problem.
My weight loss journey has been a long, winding road. I’ve enjoyed amazing success, and suffered through epic failure. It's okay, because I also believe that my experience has led me to exactly where I need to be. Sharing my story, and coaching people through their own transformation is my mission. It's how I want to help the world.
Imagine if you didn't keep running to new magical solutions.Imagine knowing you already have everything you need to lose weight for the last time.
