Is my social media account the only one filled with all the ways to lose weight?
"I need to lose weight".
"I want to feel better".
"I don't like what I see in the mirror".
"I have nothing to wear".
"Nothing looks good on me".
"I want to shop for clothes I love".
"I can't stop eating bad food".
"I can't control my cravings".
"I can't lose weight".
"I can't keep it off".
All of this used to be my daily mantra.
These were the thoughts that swirled in my head every single day.
The underlying thought that fed all of them is this: I'm not good enough now.
It's total despair.
Maybe you can relate. If so, please know that you're not alone. I see you. I understand.
Maybe this doesn't resonate. If that's the case, I'm happy for you (seriously). However, I would venture to guess that you know someone who struggles.
Why do we do this to ourselves?
Why can't we love who and where we are now?
Why is weight loss a constant topic?
Probably because it's a multi-billion dollar industry.
Also, because people have made it perfectly clear that it's not okay to be fat.
It's so easy to be caught in the weight trap. Society tells us that we're not okay if we're fat. There's a huge stigma placed on people who carry what is deemed to be "too much weight". Heck, even our doctors play along. Fat shaming runs rampant in medical offices every day.
What strikes me is this; if there was genuine concern, wouldn't people be kinder? Wouldn't they be more supportive? Instead, people are cruel. Doctors can be cruel. Fat shaming is very real. Our society believes that there is something wrong with people who carry extra weight. It's gone way beyond the typical "health concern" excuse. People are shamed for carrying extra weight. This is the problem. THIS is the epidemic.
When is it enough?
When have we lost enough?
When are we good enough?
The answer is never.
We will never be good enough if we continue to look towards external sources for validation.
Your validation has to come from within. It has to come from you. Nobody else should be assigned this very critical task. Losing weight does not solve the problem. If you don't value yourself now, you won't value a smaller version of you. It doesn't work that way. Diets are a disguise to keep you in the trap. They keep you small. All your power is given to the latest genius telling you what to do.
We don't trust ourselves. We don't believe that we can do it.
That's what needs to change.
A couple questions to ponder: What would be different for you if you recognized traditional weight loss methods as the colossal waste of time that they are? What would you do with all that space and time?
What I'm suggesting isn't easy.
Writing this isn't easy.
My journey isn't easy.
I've gone against the grain.
This isn't how most of society thinks.
I think it should be.
It's not easy, but it's so worth it.
To change my thinking.
To break the chains.
To feel the freedom.
To love my body now.
To look at my whole body in the mirror without hesitation and like what I see.
To get dressed with ease and like how I look.
To live my life without the constant burden of wondering "how can I lose this weight?".
To realize that I am in full control of what I eat.
To have a relationship with my body that's built on appreciation and love, not disgust.
Today, one of my Fat2Fierce clients shared how our work together has changed her thoughts about food, dieting, and her body. Naturally I cried as my body filled with goosebumps.
That's why I do this work.
That's why I will keep talking about this.
This is how we start to make the change.
My wish is for you to know that you are absolutely fabulous exactly as you are.
My wish is for you to know that you don't need to lose weight before you like your body.
My wish is for you to look at your whole self in a mirror and like (maybe even love) what you see.
My wish is for you to find peace.
