When the Fog Starts to Lift

My Fat2Fierce journey continues in 2019, and it keeps blowing my mind. This year I committed to do the following:

  • Step out of my comfort zone more often

  • Make my health a priority

My health hasn't been a priority, because losing weight was a priority. These goals are not the same. In fact, there's a significant difference. Weight loss alone does not guarantee good health. My priority was skewed. As you may know I have had my share of health challenges, including breast cancer. Since then I have struggled with debilitating fatigue. For the last 5 years I've been living in a fog, but that fog is slowly starting to lift. The doctors I've seen over the years started to sound like a broken record. They all have the same suggestion that "should" cure my fatigue and fog: lose weight!! I've been fat shamed by medical professionals for decades. Since I don't fit their definition of "healthy" weight my weight becomes the target every single time. I often wonder what they say to "normal" weight people who have health issues, or thin people who get sick. What's the excuse then? How about the fact that I was diagnosed with breast cancer AFTER I lost 100 pounds? I ask the questions. Nobody has the answers. It's not surprising, but it is so exhausting. Just last year a local OBGYN suggested writing a script for antidepressants knowing absolutely nothing about my mental health. Why? Because it's her belief that "people who carry extra weight must be depressed". I wish I was making this up. Needless to say, she's no longer my doctor. For the record I have zero issue with antidepressants. That's not what this is about. The truth is that this kind of thing happens more often than people talk about. The unfortunate result is that many people avoid the doctor like the plague because of fat phobia and fat shaming. It is my opinion that many medical professionals do a real disservice to folks who carry extra weight. I got tired of wasting my time listening to the broken record, so I decided to take an alternate course. I recently started seeing a Naturopathic Practitioner in ATL and it's already made a world of difference! I finally got some answers that can actually help outside of the standard "eat less and move more" bullshit. It's been really nice to speak with someone who offers compassion, understanding, and doesn't think I'm completely crazy. At my first appointment I learned that my body is sensitive to wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, and corn. None of this is terribly surprising when I think back to how I feel whenever I eat these things. So, I completely changed my diet. I'm starting to feel so much better! It hasn't been hard to change what I eat. There's been absolutely no drama removing any of this stuff from my diet. I know these foods don't work with my body, so I don't eat them anymore. It really has been that simple. It's blowing my mind how effortless it has been. I had a major "aha" last week when I realized that this is easy because of the work I have done to resolve the issues I had with food and with my body. Food doesn't have control over me anymore. I don't stress eat. I don't get cravings. There's no drama with food because I ended the drama with food. My body has become my friend. I want to care for it in the best way possible. Since the relationship with food, and with my body, is forever changed my new protocol isn't a big deal. I'm not going to tell you that seeing a Naturopathic Practitioner is the answer for everyone. I did a ton of research on this, and it's right for me for now. I will invite you to be your own advocate, do the research, and always make the best decision for you. That said, I am a little out of my comfort zone with all of this and that's okay. I'm making my health a priority and that feels good. I can feel the fog lifting. Are you ready to end your food drama? Can you imagine what it will feel like when you finally stop freaking out about your weight, and learn how to take care of your whole self with compassion and love? Imagine the day when you realize you have stopped stress eating for good, and food no longer has a hold on you. I want you to experience that freedom. You deserve it. I help women who want to lose weight learn how to stop stress eating and shift diet drama so their weight doesn't get in the way of living their best life. This is what I have done, and this is what my clients are doing. Fat2Fierce continues to change my life in all the best ways, and now I get to witness the impact in my clients lives. They are ending the struggle, taking back their control, and stopping self sabotage. It's a permanent shift. There's no going back from here. If you're sick of the hamster wheel and you want to learn more, what are you waiting for?
