Menopause, Insulin Resistance, and Reclaiming My Power

Some days just feel… blah.
That’s exactly where I was when I sat down to record the latest episode of The Confidence Chronicles. I thought about waiting until I had more energy, until I felt more “on.” But life isn’t always polished. Sometimes the most honest, freeing conversations come from the messy, low-energy moments.
And this is one worth sharing. Because it’s about something that so many of us experience but don’t often talk about: the changes in our bodies, the confusion of menopause, the reality of insulin resistance, and the power that comes from finally understanding what’s happening inside us.
The Frustration of “Doing Everything Right”
If you’ve ever tried to lose weight during menopause, you know the struggle. For months, I felt stuck with the 20 pounds that crept on last year and refused to budge, no matter how disciplined I was.
I was working out.
Drinking my water.
Eating more fiber.
I even cut out sugar for an entire month.
And the scale didn’t move.
That frustration is real. And while I let myself feel it, I refused to let it run the show. Instead of letting self-blame take over, I kept showing up and doing all the things. Still, deep down, I knew something wasn’t adding up.
The Missing Piece: Menopause and Insulin Resistance
With encouragement from my dietitian, I finally had my hormones tested. Because of an endometrial ablation years ago, I couldn’t rely on my cycle to tell me where I was in the process, so testing was the only option.
The results came back:
✨ I’m officially in full menopause.
✨ My insulin levels are high.
And suddenly, everything made sense.
The stubborn weight.
The fatigue.
The way my body was holding on, no matter what I did.
This wasn’t about willpower. It wasn’t about discipline. It wasn’t me failing.
It was my body. My hormones. My insulin.
Having some answers changed everything.
Every Human Body Is Different
Before I go further, I want to say this: every human body is different. What’s true for me may not be true for you.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer years ago, a nurse told me something I’ll never forget:
“Everyone is going to want to share their story. But every diagnosis, every treatment plan, every body is different.”
That wisdom has carried me through so many seasons of life, including this one. It’s why I encourage women to advocate for themselves, ask questions, and work with providers who listen, especially when it comes to menopause, perimenopause, weight changes, and insulin resistance.
Menopause as a Milestone, Not a Burden
Here’s the surprising part: learning that I’m in full menopause felt like a milestone worth celebrating.
For so long, menopause has been painted as an ending and something to dread. But when I read those words in my doctor’s email, I didn’t feel dread. I felt proud.
Proud of my body for carrying me through so much.
Proud that I’ve reached this threshold.
Proud that I’m still here, still learning, still growing.
Menopause isn’t the end, it’s a chapter. And like every chapter of our lives, it deserves to be honored.
The Bigger Takeaway
The answers don’t erase the challenge.
I still have weight that hasn’t moved. I still have insulin resistance to manage. I still have work ahead of me.
But the answers change how I carry the challenge.
I feel empowered instead of defeated.
Curious instead of judgmental.
Compassionate instead of critical.
And that’s the heart of healing our relationship with food and our bodies. It’s not about chasing perfection or “fixing” yourself. It’s about choosing understanding over shame. It’s about reclaiming trust in your body, even when it doesn’t look or feel the way you thought it would.
Your Invitation
If you’re in a season where your body feels confusing, frustrating, or impossible to figure out, I want you to know you’re not alone.
Sometimes it’s not about discipline.
Sometimes it’s not about effort.
Sometimes it’s your body asking for a different kind of attention.
And sometimes, you need someone to help you see it differently.
That’s what coaching is for. It’s where we take what feels heavy and offer a new perspective, one that helps you move forward instead of staying stuck.
If this resonates, I’d love to invite you to book a connection call with me. Let’s talk about where you’re at, what’s been weighing on you, and what might be possible when you reclaim your power with food, your body, and yourself.
Because menopause, insulin resistance, and weight changes... none of these define your worth. But how you meet them is where your power lives.
